Enjoying Plymouth with Elderly Parents

Plymouth is a lovely city, with plenty of walks and places to go. However, finding accessible, suitable locations for elderly parents can be challenging. Don’t worry! We’re here to help.

Hoe Park

The Hoe features flat, open greenery which is enjoyed by all ages. The infamous Plymouth lighthouse is located here and, if you’re looking for a meal out, the Liner Lookout Cafe and Hoe Lodge Restaurant can be accessed directly from the Hoe. A central car park allows free parking for Blue Badge holders and the location means you don’t need to cross any roads to access it.

Freedom Fields

Freedom Fields is a park located in Lipson – a great choice for a somewhere less busy during summer months. The park has two ramp entrances however these are considered easy to access. The Lipson Road entrance is a set of stairs. A small, on-site cafe is a good point to rest and refresh. The park however does not have a dedicated car park or nearby Blue Badge parking.

Mount Edgcumbe House & Park

Mount Edgcumbe is a little further afield but the sights are well worth traveling for. Hedge mazes, sculptures, and fountains make for a full days worth of activities. The Orangery Restaurant is open April – September. The dedicated car park gives easy access without needing to cross a road. Some of the slopes within the inner garden are slightly steeper however slope access is available throughout much of the park.

And remember, wherever you decide to go, make sure to keep hydrated and bring something to keep you and your loved ones covered from the sun.
